An olive oil dispenser might seem like a small detail in your kitchen, but it can make a surprisingly big difference in your cooking routine. Sometimes called oil cruets, these vessels are designed to store and pour oil with precision, helping you control the flow, whether you’re drizzling over salads, finishing a dish, pouring over bread, or adding a quick slick to the pan. They can be used as an eye-catching decorative piece for the kitchen. Depending on the material, they also help protect olive oil from light and air, keeping it fresher longer and preserving its flavor.

“If you’re going to use it at the stove, I suggest a small container, dark, non-heat penetrable, non-light penetrable, and non-oxygen penetrable,” said Donna Liotto-Scocozza, certified olive oil sommelier and owner of Firenze International Olive Oils in Montclair, New Jersey.

For these olive oil dispensers, we looked at everything from pour control and drip resistance to how easy they are to fill, clean, and store. We considered factors like material, design, and durability, and we paid close attention to the flow and stream of the olive oil poured out of these containers. Whether you’re after a stylish bottle for the table or a hardworking tool by the stove, these are the best olive oil dispensers we recommend.

Our top pick is the Haand Oil Cruet for its steady, easily controllable pour and its ability to preserve olive oil quality. The Emile Henry Oil Cruet earns a solid second place for its simple features and reliable performance.

The stainless steel, open pour spout allows for an easily controllable pour.

The product is expensive and doesn't have the largest capacity on this list.

At first glance, this was one of the shortest and bulkiest oil dispensers we’ve ever seen. But it quickly checked every box on our list. Made from handmade ceramic, this cruet features an open pour spout that keeps olive oil at its best by protecting it from air and sunlight. The wide top also makes it easy to refill without spills.

What we loved most was the steady, controlled pour. With a simple flick of the wrist, we could easily adjust the precision or heaviness of the smooth stream. We weren’t as impressed by the exposed cork, but noticed that with more use, the cork gradually fit more snugly into the bottle. While it’s on the pricier side, this cruet is built to last a lifetime.

The dispenser comes in five colors: buttermilk pink, celadon, coquina, mariana, and matte white.

Simple, functional design with excellent pour control.

Cork remains exposed even after several uses.

This classic French olive oil cruet is crafted from mineral-rich clay ceramic sourced from the Bordeaux region. It’s a generously sized bottle that delivers an even flow, letting you easily manage how light or heavy you want the drizzle. The steel spout with the open-air top has a slight drip at the nozzle, but it’s minimal and didn’t bother us.

While we appreciated timeless, no-fuss design, we weren’t thrilled that the cork stays partially exposed, even after weeks of use. The bottle is coated in a scratch-resistant glaze that is also oven and microwave-safe. The manufacturer backs it with a 10-year warranty, though it doesn’t cover commercial use or damage from misuse.

You get two cruets for the price of one.

Olive oil tends to clog in the spout.

This set is a steal as it comes with two identical cruets for the price of one. The only distinguishing detail is the “Le Creuset” engraving on one bottle. Made from durable stoneware, each dispenser has an open-pour spot with a slightly angled nozzle secured by a silicone cork.

The bottle works beautifully with vinegar, but we ran into some issues when using it for olive oil. The cap on the pour doesn’t fully open, and the olive oil tends to clog, causing droplets instead of a clean stream. You can still get a pour going, but it usually takes a few shakes. Le Creuset produces this set in 11 different colors that come with a 10-year warranty.

Capacity: 10 ounces each | Material: Stoneware | Dishwasher-safe: Yes

Simple, no frills design.

Doesn’t keep olive oil as fresh.

OXO is known for making reliable, affordable kitchen tools, and this olive dispenser is no exception. The glass bottle comes with a screw-on top with a stainless-steel rim and a matte-finish plastic cap, along with a removable silicone insert for easy cleaning. We were especially impressed with its pour – incredibly precise and smooth, offering excellent control.

This dispenser was nearly our top pick, but its design held it back. While we loved its simplicity, the clear glass allows sunlight to pass through, and the fully open spout leaves the oil exposed to air. Unfortunately, that means your olive oil likely won’t stay fresh for long in this bottle. If you go through olive oil quickly or keep it away from sunlight exposure, this is still a great option.

Capacity: 12 ounces | Material: Glass | Dishwasher-safe: Yes

An aesthetically pleasing piece to elevate any kitchen.

Some olive oil leaks out of the bottle while pouring.

Of all the dispensers we tested, this was the most aesthetically pleasing — and also the most expensive. The stoneware cruet has a collar around its neck resembling an open flower, paired with an open stainless steel spout with a slightly bent nozzle. It attaches to the bottle with an oak cork that can’t fully be inserted inside.

The design is easily its biggest asset. When pouring, olive oil leaked around the cork. While the flower-shaped collar helped catch some of the drips, it really shouldn’t be leaking at all. And although the stoneware protects the oil from light, the open spot leaves it exposed to air. We think this dispenser works better as a decorative piece for the table rather than a practical tool for cooking.

Capacity: 18 ounces | Material: Stoneware | Dishwasher-safe: Yes, but hand-washing preferred by the manufacturer

Comes with several attachments and a funnel for easy refilling.

Won’t retain the quality of the olive oil.

This glass dispenser features the classic olive oil bottle design we all recognize. We love that it comes with a range of attachments, including a screw-on cap, two plastic caps, a stainless steel funnel, and two interchangeable spouts secured with a rubber cork. One spout is self-closing, while the other is open but comes with a rubber cap. The open pour spout is more suitable for drizzling on bread, while the open air one is more for adding oil to the pan or dressing vegetables.

Refilling this bottle is a breeze thanks to the funnel, which can also be used to add dry spices or herbs for infusing oils. While the dark-tinted glass offers some light protection, it still lets in enough sunlight to potentially affect the oil’s quality over time. It would be best stored in a dark place and secured with the screw-on cap attachment.

Olive oil dispensers come in a variety of materials, including plastic, glass, ceramic, and stoneware. When it comes to olive oil, the storage material plays a crucial role in maintaining freshness. Some materials protect better against light and air exposure, both of which can cause the oil to spoil more quickly.

The design of the pour spot affects how easily and cleanly you can control the flow of olive oil. Some dispensers have self-closing spouts that help limit air exposure and prevent drips, while others have open spouts for quicker, more freeform pours but also expose the olive oil to air. The size of the spout can also affect the stream’s precision. Look for a spout that suits how you typically use olive oil – whether you’re using it over a salad or pouring into a hot pan. The right spout can reduce mess and help preserve your oil longer.

Depending on how much olive oil you go through, how much a dispenser holds is something to look out for. They come in a range of sizes, from small bottles that hold just a few ounces to larger ones that can store over 16 ounces. Liotto-Scocozza says that a small dispenser is more ideal if you use olive oil infrequently to keep it fresher — a dispenser that holds under two cups (16 ounces) is ideal. The only downside is that it would have to be refilled often. Larger bottles are more convenient for frequent cooking but may expose the oil to air longer, which affects the quality over time. Choose a size that matches your cooking habits and how quickly you go through olive oil.

Aesthetics aren’t everything, but the design of a cruet can impact both form and function. A well-designed olive oil dispenser should be comfortable to hold, easy to pour from, not leak, and stable on the counter or table. There are some that feature wider mouths for stress-free refilling, drip-catching collars, or spouts that blend seamlessly into the overall look. Pick a design that fits your kitchen style or your daily needs, whether it be a minimalist glass bottle that gets the job done or a sculptural ceramic piece.

In order to find our favorite olive oil dispensers, we handpicked eight different ones to test. Throughout the testing, we incorporated the olive oil dispensers into our regular kitchen routine as much as possible, filling the olive oil bottle and pouring it back out, noting any leaks and flow rate. We used the olive oil bottle to drizzle oil into pans, and over bread, vegetables, and salads, noting:

Casafina Fattoria Cruet ($52 at Amazon)

The dispenser is compact with a modern design and has an extremely precise pour, ideal for enjoying on bread. We just wish it didn’t dispense out of the bottle so slowly.

Crate & Barrel Marin White Oil Cruet ($15 at Crate & Barrel)

The cruet featured a comforting, textured bottle with thumbprint-like indents that easily fit into the grooves of our fingers. It just lacked a steady, controlled pour and gurgled instead of executing a smooth olive oil stream.

Liotto-Scocozza says that you don’t necessarily need a dispenser unless you want a decorative piece or have a large quantity of it at home. “Some people buy three or five-liter containers of olive oil, in which case, yes, you probably don’t want to take that to the stove every single time.”

“I would say once it’s opened and depending on how much you use it, six to 12 months,” said Liotto-Scocozza. You can tell if your olive oil has gone bad if it starts to smell or taste funny.

“Anything that’s dark, ceramic, or metal because they’re not light penetrating,” said Liotto-Scocozza. It’s also important to have a spout that can be sealed or is an open pour because exposure to air can also affect the freshness of olive oil.

While most people use olive oil dispensers to have ready on hand and by the stove, it’s actually not the best place to put them. “Preferably in a cool, dark place and certainly not near heat. So not near the stove or above the stove, and not in the refrigerator. If you go away for four, five, or six months of the year, then put your olive oil in the refrigerator,” Liotto-Scocozza said.
